Traffic stop in Elliot Lake uncovers $25.5K in cocaine

Two Elliot Lake residents face drug trafficking charges after OPP seized roughly $26,000 worth of suspected cocaine during a traffic stop on Highway 108.

Two people from Elliot Lake have been charged after a traffic stop on Highway 108 recently led to the discovery of what police believe is 259 grams of cocaine.

Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release that a small grey SUV was stopped around 5:15 p.m. on May 14. A search uncovered cocaine with a street value of $25,900.

“The driver and passenger were subsequently arrested and charged,” police said.

A 55-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Elliot Lake, were charged with drug trafficking.

Both are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on July 9.
