Winnipegger facing dozens of charges after anti-Semitic graffiti found in Charleswood: police

A 19-year-old man is facing dozens of charges after a slew of hate symbols were graffitied in Charleswood.

A 19-year-old Winnipegger is facing dozens of mischief-related charges in connection to anti-Semitic graffiti reported through Charleswood, the Winnipeg Police Service said.

According to the service, it received multiple reports between Sept. 29 and Dec. 31 of graffiti that included anti-Semitic acronyms and symbols, including swastikas on a number of buildings, objects, and fences in a Charleswood neighbourhood.

Officers retrieved CCTV footage and spoke with the building owners who had been victimized.

Investigators identified a suspect and carried out a search warrant on Jan. 12 at a home in the Westdale neighbourhood.

A 19-year-old Winnipeg man was charged with 26 counts of mischief under $5,000. He remains in custody.

The investigation continues, and police ask anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
