Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport was evacuated Saturday afternoon, due to an issue in the server room of the terminal building.
According to the Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA), an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) harmonic filter failed, which generated smoke and activated the smoke detector.
Passengers were evacuated around 4:30 p.m. Saturday as a precaution.
Winnipeg fire crews responded to the call, and cleared the terminal for passengers and employees to return shortly after they were evacuated.
An air conditioner unit was initially thought to be the cause of the smoke.
A spokesperson with the WAA said any delays were expected to be short term.
In a statement Thursday evening, the WAA wrote that it is reviewing today's procedures.
