WestJet is expanding its domestic offerings across the country this summer, including new flights between Winnipeg and the east coast.

On Tuesday, the airline announced it is adding flights between Winnipeg and St. John’s, Newfoundland. The flights will begin on July 1 and will be offered two times a week.

“These routes bring greater choice to our guests across the country and make it easier for Canadians to access our expanding transatlantic network from Halifax and St. John’s,” said John Weatherill, WestJet executive vice-president and chief commercial officer, in a news release.

“As demand for summer travel continues to evolve, we are focused on flying people where they want to go, whether it’s reuniting with loved ones in the prairies, exploring new sights in the Maritimes or seamlessly connecting to Europe.”

Along with the new route, WestJet is also increasing the frequency of its route between Winnipeg and Halifax to 10 times a week. The airline notes this is a frequency increase of 43 per cent.
