WINNIPEG -- Closing arguments are underway in a trial for a Manitoba man accused of running down and shooting his neighbour.
Eric Wildman has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Clifford Joseph, whose remains were found in a rural area northeast of Winnipeg weeks after he was reported missing.
Wildman’s lawyer told jurors the accused did not kill Joseph and argued much of the case is based on a sloppy and biased police investigation.
Crown prosecutors have said Joseph went to Wildman’s house with a plan to steal from him.
It’s alleged Wildman then ran Joseph over with a car and shot him three times.
Defence lawyer Martin Glazer told court there is no proof the two men knew each other and no evidence Joseph was run over.
