Manitoba's attorney general released a statement in response to the family of Brian Sinclair pulling out of the inquest into his death and calling for a much broader public inquiry instead.

“The death of Brian Sinclair was a tragedy that should and could have been prevented and I would like to offer my sincere apologies to Mr. Sinclair’s family. I understand and sympathize with the strong feelings of the family and others in this case,” said Andrew Swan in the statement.

“Immediate action was taken following Mr. Sinclair’s death to determine what went wrong and make changes so that this can’t happen again, including changing how patients are greeted, triaged and monitored in the waiting room,” said Swan.

“The government is not considering calling an inquiry. There is an inquest underway and it is important that we let that process unfold and learn everything we can from it. The findings of this inquest will be invaluable as we move forward.”
