People got a chance to grab a piece of history as the old Merchants Hotel took another step towards its transformation into a hub for community development.
On Saturday, a garage sale was held to celebrate the change. The sale inside the landmark building on Selkirk Avenue has been made up of furnishings and memorabilia from over the years.
The event allowed the community to take a last look inside the building before the site is closed for a major redevelopment.
TheNorth End Community Renewal Corporation held the sale with all proceeds going towards the Merchants Corner project.
"This is a positive change to the community,” said Martin Landy of the NECRC. “We spent two years talking to the community to see what they wanted to have with this corner, and Merchants Corner will be the new educational housing hub Help revitalize the community."
So far, more than $9 million has been raised. The total cost of the redevelopment is close to $13 million.
