2021 Federal Election

Terry Duguid was re-elected with 47 per cent of the vote. He has represented the riding since 2015.

History

The riding was originally contested from 1917 to 1979, when it was split into Winnipeg Assiniboine and Winnipeg-Fort Garry. It was brought back in 1987 during a boundary redistribution.

The riding is considered a bellwether riding for Canada, as the party elected has gone on to form a government since 1988.

Boundaries

The riding covers much of southern Winnipeg. Due to a boundary redistribution, it loses Minnetonka to St. Boniface-St. Vital, and Whyte Ridge and Linden Ridge to Winnipeg South Centre.

Demographics

The total population of the riding hit 113,370 in the 2021 census, a 13.7 per cent increase from 2016. Of the population, 44.7 per cent of the riding identifies as a visible minority, including 13.2 per cent as South Asian.
