Road signs honouring Canadian musician and Manitoba-born Tom Cochrane were unveiled Sunday along a stretch of PR 391.
The signs read ‘Life is a Highway’ after Cochrane’s 1991 song.
Cochrane was born in Lynn Lake, Man.
“I have always been proud of my Lynn Lake heritage. The pioneering independent spirit of Lynn and towns like it in the North help define the spirit of our country profoundly,” Cochrane said.
The Manitoba government announced last October it would honour the singer and the 25th anniversary of his album ‘Mad Mad World’ that ‘Life is a Highway’ appeared on in 1991.
Growth, Enterprise, and Trade Minister Blaine Pedersen said the road signs are along a 322-kilometre section of PR 391 that connects Lynn Lake and Thompson.
“These signs will be a lasting tribute to the accomplishments of a Manitoba musician and his home town,” Pedersen said.
A concert performed by Cochrane was held Saturday following the sign unveiling.
“We are pleased to welcome Minister Pedersen and Tom Cochrane to Lynn Lake,” said Deputy Mayor Pat MacDonald, Town of Lynn Lake. “I want to thank the minister and the Manitoba government for their continued support of the town and of northern Manitoba.
