Hundreds take part in Challenge for Life to support cancer research and awareness

CTV Winnipeg: Hundreds show for Challenge for life More than 500 people took part in the Challenge for Life 20K walk Saturday in support of the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

More than 500 Manitobans laced up Saturday morning to take on the Challenge for Life Walk.

Supporters and walkers gathered at Assiniboine Park around 8:00 a.m. to kick-off the 20 kilometre walk, which takes participants through some of Winnipeg’s most beautiful and historic neighbourhoods.

Saturday's walk raised $825,436 for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation; benefitting cancer treatment,support and research.

"We wish that cancer didn't affect people’s lives, but it does; and they only way we are going to beat it is if we support people financially and emotionally,” said Annitta Stenning from CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

CTV Winnipeg weather specialist Terri Apostle emceed the event; while personalities Maralee Caruso, Colleen Bready, Cheryl Holmes and Andrea Slobodian volunteered at one of the six pit stops along the route to help motivate walkers.

Since the first Challenge for Life Walk in 2008, the event has raised more than $8 million.
