Five Manitoba cities, towns break January heat records

Five Manitoba communities broke decades-old January heat records this week.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Winnipeg hit a high of 3.4 C on Tuesday, narrowly besting the old record of 3.3 C set in 1976.

Steinbach also surpassed its previous record. The city hit 2.9 C, edging out the 1992 record of 1.5 C.

Meanwhile, a downright balmy high of 4.7 C in Swan River on Tuesday blazed past its former record of 1.0 C, also set in 1992.

Carberry followed suit with 2.5 C, topping its 1983 record of 2.0 C.

Oak Point also enjoyed a mild Tuesday at 2.1 C, surpassing its previous record of 0.1 C set in 2005.
