A Winnipeg city councillor wants to see if it would be possible to lower the speed limit on a stretch of St. Anne’s Road.
Coun. Markus Chambers submitted a motion to the Riel Community Committee to ask the Public Service to review the speed limit between the Perimeter Highway and Prairie Grove Road.
The speed limit is currently 70 kilometres per hour, and Chambers wants to see if it could be reduced to 60 km/h.
The motion notes more people from rural Manitoba use that road to commute into Winnipeg for work, and residents have raised concerns about safety.
“Residents have observed drivers passing school buses and vehicles turning into residential driveways, creating hazardous conditions for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users,” the motion reads.
As part of the report, Chambers would also want the Public Service to look at traffic patterns, speed compliance, safety risks and the impact of more speed limit signage.
The Riel Community Committee will hear the motion on Thursday.
