Windsor’s plan to address a bothersome goose population is now underway.
A goose management program aims to control the population and keep the feathered flock from nesting in some areas.
This includes removing and relocating goose eggs and nests before they hatch later this spring.
While moving the eggs may seem dangerous, the city says the approach poses little risk, “They will then begin to look for other locations to nest,” explained Windsor Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Executive Director James Chacko. “That is the goal in this: to not have them nesting within the parkland but then allowing them to nest in areas where they can certainly coexist with the environment around them.”
Windsor set aside $30,000 dollars this year to hire an external contractor.
Canadian geese have been the target of ire due to aggressive behaviour, waltzing into roadways and leaving large droppings in public spaces.
