Changes at London’s Canada Post process plant will see Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent mail shipped to Toronto.
Starting August 25, some mail processing will be transferred to Toronto’s South Central Letter Processing Plant and Gateway West Facility.
Approximately 50 jobs will be eliminated this summer. Currently 300 employees work at the plant.
In February 2013, Canada Post closed Windsor’s processing plant, moving some mail, including letters, to London for processing. The Walker Road location now focuses on processing parcels and direct marketing mail. At the time, mail volume had dropped by 25 per cent.
Canada Post says there will be no impact to service.
