A wanted suspect in Windsor’s first homicide of 2025, alongside another suspect, has been arrested in Peterborough.
The Windsor Police Service and Peterborough Police Service worked together to arrest a 19-year-old and a 16-year-old in connection to the incident that took place last month.
On Jan. 27, the WPS was called to the 400 block of Wyandotte Street East after reports of an unresponsive man outside.
When officers arrived on scene, Sean Shuart, 53, was found with a single gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Through initial investigations, police said the victim was fatally shot after a verbal altercation with a man. The suspect ran before WPS showed up.
The suspect was first identified as “Ty”, and was said to have left the Windsor area. However, on Feb. 4, Peterborough police followed through with a “high-risk arrest” near George Street North and Simcoe Street in Peterborough.

The 19-year-old and 16-year-old teenagers were arrested without incident.
A search led to the seizure of a replica pellet gun, a large, sheathed machete, bear spray, 21.5 grams of fentanyl, pills, Canadian money, digital scales, and multiple cell phones.
The 19-year-old was identified as Muhamad Taupan, who was also identified as “Ty” in the case.
He was taken back to Windsor and is facing charges for first-degree murder in Windsor.
Peterborough police charged Taupan with two counts of possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a schedule two substance for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of carrying a concealed weapon.
The 16-year-old boy’s identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. However, he faces an accessory to the murder of Sean Shuart charge in Windsor. According to WPS Staff Sgt. Ted Novak, the accessory to murder is related to “concealing evidence.”
Taupan and the teen were not known to the victim.
In Peterborough, the 16-year-old has been charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a schedule two substance for the purpose of trafficking, failure to comply with a release order, and failure to comply with a sentence.
