The Chatham-Kent Police Service is stressing the importance of security cameras as they have aided in various investigations this week.

On Wednesday evening, police were called to a robbery in Tilbury, where they believed the suspect had left in a vehicle.

After a search of the area turned up nothing, the CKPS used security cameras and identified the vehicle, located, and arrested the suspects without incident.

On the same day a few hours later, police were called for help finding a senior in Chatham who hadn’t returned home from an appointment.

Police said concerns were expressed about the person’s health due to the freezing temperatures. A search by frontline officers did not have success.

Upon reviewing security cameras, the vehicle was seen in Dresden. Police found the vehicle, which was low on gas. The driver was disoriented. The missing person was returned to their family and additional support was given.

“Technology played a critical role in bringing about peaceful and successful resolutions to both incidents,” said the CKPS in a news release.

“These cases serve as prime examples of how community and officers’ safety are being enhanced through innovative collaboration.”
