One suspect has been arrested after the Windsor Police Service seized more than $500,000 in illegal drugs.
Earlier in January, police said they launched an investigation into a suspected drug trafficking ring with connections to the Greater Toronto Area.
On Wednesday, a 26-year-old man was arrested in the 200 block of Watson Avenue. Following a search, the WPS seized 1,978 grams of cocaine, 988 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and 150 millilitres of codeine. Also seized was $2,600 in cash and two cell phones.
After the arrest, police also got a warrant to search a nearby home. That search resulted in the seizure of another 625 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 504 grams of fentanyl, and nine grams of cocaine, a Glock handgun magazine, 50 rounds of .38 caliber ammunition, 21 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition, a digital scale and drug packaging materials.
A search of the suspect’s vehicle seized another 38 grams of cocaine.
“Through this investigation, we have taken a significant amount of illegal drugs off our streets,” said Insp. David DeLuca.
“I commend the work of our Drugs and Guns Enforcement Unit for their ongoing commitment to keeping our communities safe.”
The suspect now faces three counts of possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, two counts of possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking – crystal methamphetamine, possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl, and failure to comply with a release order.
