One man is dead and two people are injured after a shooting and fire in northern B.C. Friday.
Fort St. John RCMP “responded to a report of a shooting and found an apartment fire,” the detachment said in a news release late Friday night.
The call came in around 1:20 p.m. Police said they were called to an apartment complex in the 9800 block of 103 Avenue, where a man in a silver, two-door car had allegedly fired at a black pickup truck with two occupants.
“The black truck fled the scene and attended a local hospital as both occupants had suffered apparent non-life-threatening injuries,” the release reads, adding that the hospital was placed on lockdown “out of an abundance of caution.”
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the apartment building on fire.
Police said their initial investigation suggests that the suspect in the silver car set the fire, “then drove his vehicle into the blaze.” He was found dead inside the vehicle.
“This appears to be an isolated incident and police believe there is no ongoing risk to the public,” said Staff Sgt. Kris Clark of the B.C. RCMP, in the release.
“Police have identified several key witnesses and the (Fort St. John RCMP) Serious Crime Unit is actively investigating the incident.”
Anyone who has not yet spoken to police or has surveillance or dash cam video from the area of 98 Street and 103 Avenue should call the unit at 250-787-8140, police said.
