A man has been charged after he allegedly bit off the tip of a security guard’s fingertip last week, according to authorities.

Officers were called to the scene near Granville and West Cordova streets around 10:30 a.m. on April 10, the Vancouver Department said in a media release.

“Police believe the victim was working as a security guard when he encountered the suspect in a plaza outside the building,” the statement said.

“Following a brief interaction, the victim was allegedly assaulted and sustained a severed fingertip.”

The victim, a 62-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment and a suspect was arrested.

Derek Driscoll, 32, has been charged with aggravated assault and remains in custody, according to the VPD.
