Mounties in Kamloops, B.C., say officers seized a variety of illicit drugs and a pair of guns from vehicles during a targeted drug-enforcement campaign last week.
The local RCMP detachment’s crime reduction unit made the first seizure during a traffic stop on March 27, when police pulled over a vehicle “known to be associated to a local drug trafficker,” according to a statement from the RCMP on Wednesday.
Drugs believed to be fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine were seized, and the vehicle was impounded as the driver was under a driving prohibition, police said.
The suspect was released from custody pending a scheduled court appearance.
Early the next morning, officers stopped a vehicle on Seymour Street and say the driver was found carrying a handgun in a suspender holster. The weapon was seized along with some ammunition, drugs and cash that were found inside the vehicle, according to the statement.
The suspect was arrested and later released from custody pending a scheduled court appearance.
Another gun was found by police around 10 p.m. the following day, when officers patrolling near Hillside Way stopped a vehicle that was previously seen at a residence associated to drug activity, the RCMP said.
Two people in the vehicle were arrested for drug possession and a modified long-gun was seized, according to the statement. Both suspects were released without process while the investigation is ongoing.
“The focused efforts of our crime reduction unit helped directly remove firearms and drugs from our streets this weekend, and continue to target criminals who prey on those in our community,” Supt. Jeff Pelley said in the statement.
