More snow in the forecast for parts of Vancouver Island, Southern Gulf Island

There’s more winter weather in the forecast for parts of Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands this weekend.

Flurries are expected through Saturday morning, according to a special weather statement from Environment and Climate Change Canada.

“A low will move to the west of Vancouver Island this afternoon and tonight,” the statement reads. “It will send bands of flurries over West Vancouver Island late this afternoon, and the rest of Vancouver Island this evening.”

Snowfall amounts will be “highly variable,” according to the weather agency, which expects some areas could see upwards of five centimetres of snow.

“Locally heavy flurries may bring reduced visibilities. Please allow for extra time for your travel and be prepared to adjust your driving with quickly changing road conditions.”

Earlier this week, a snowstorm forced a series of school closures on Vancouver Island and in B.C.’s Lower Mainland, and caused treacherous conditions on some highways.
