A landslide in Washington state has halted train travel between Seattle and Vancouver, Amtrak said Tuesday.

The U.S. passenger rail service said its Cascades route between the largest cities in B.C. and Washington would be affected by a 48-hour travel moratorium implemented by host railroad BNSF due to the slide, which occurred west of Everett, Wash.

“All customers traveling on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, will have alternative transportation to reach their destination,” Amtrak said in a statement, though it did not elaborate on what that transportation would look like.

Northbound travellers on trains 516 from Seattle to Vancouver and 518 from Portland, Ore., to Vancouver on Wednesday will be provided with “alternate bus transportation” for the Seattle to Vancouver leg of their journeys.

“Alternate transportation for customers traveling south on trains 517 and 519 are still being finalized,” the service said, adding that normal operations are expected to resume on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
