Early morning Kelowna tire fire being treated as suspicious

A fire that engulfed “stacks of tires” in Kelowna early Sunday morning is being treated as suspicious, according to officials.

The Kelowna Fire Department was called to the scene outside of a Canadian Tire on Leckie Road around 5 a.m.

“Crews quickly knocked down the tire fire and were able to keep it from extending into the structure. The structure did suffer some heat and smoke damage to the exterior pre-cast cement wall,” a news release from the fire department said, adding that the store remains open for business.

No further information on the suspected cause of the fire was provided, but the department did say the RCMP attended the scene.
