Three people are dead after a three-vehicle collision on the Pattullo Bridge between Surrey and New Westminster Friday night.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on the east end of the bridge, the Surrey Police Service said in a statement late Friday.

Paramedics called police to the scene, advising them that two passenger vehicles and one semi truck were involved in the collision, which happened in the southbound lanes.

Images from the scene show the semi truck blocking lanes in both directions, and police have placed tarps over one of the smaller vehicles involved.

Despite attempts to save the lives of three people who were in the passenger vehicles, they were declared dead at the scene, police said.

“One other occupant of one of the passenger vehicles was transported to hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries,” the SPS statement reads.

“At this early stage the extent of the surviving occupants’ injuries are unknown. The driver of the semi-trailer truck was unhurt and remained on scene.”

The bridge remained closed to traffic in both directions overnight and into Saturday morning, with officers from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit Criminal Collision Investigation Team on scene.

Around 12:30 p.m., DriveBC reported that the bridge had fully reopened.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash cam video from the scene is asked to call the SPS at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2025-12779 (SP).
