MIAMI - Forecasters say Tropical Depression Ophelia is expected to strengthen slowly over the next couple of days but the storm poses no immediate threat to land.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Ophelia had maximum sustained winds of about 56 kph Wednesday. Tropical Storm Ophelia formed about a week ago and then weakened. It regenerated Tuesday and is moving northwest about 531 kilometres east of the Northern Leeward Islands.

Tropical Storm Philippe is far from land with maximum sustained winds of 64 kph. The storm is expected to weaken during the next day or two.

In the Pacific, Hurricane Hilary has weakened to a Category One storm with winds of 145 kph. Hilary is not expected to affect Mexico's coast.
