One person was injured following a shooting in Etobicoke Wednesday afternoon, police say.
The incident happened near The Queensway and Atomic Avenue, in front of The Deluxe Inn, just before 1 p.m.
According to paramedics, a male victim suffered a gunshot wound to his lower extremities and was transported to St. Michael's Hospital.
Supt. Shaun Narine told CTV Toronto that some sort of altercation took place on the sidewalk in front of The Deluxe Inn which resulted in a man being shot.
Narine said the victim stumbled onto the Queensway where passersby stopped to help him and called 911.
"I saw this guy on the road and he was just laying there at that point. It was pretty bad," said Edith Rajna, who was nearby at the time of the shooting. "A lot of people were already on the phone calling 911 and people were taking video... (There was) big support right away and help was here really fast."
According to police, the victim was shot multiple times and sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive.
Police also said that a silver truck in the area of the shooting was struck by a stray bullet.
"We never expected to be having lunch and be greeted by this kind of activity," Rajna said.
At this point, police said they do not know the suspect they're looking for, but said that there are a number of surveillance cameras in the area that caught the altercation on video.
The westbound and eastbound lanes on the Queensway were closed from The East Mall to Atomic Avenue for several hours as police conducted an investigation.
All lanes have since reopened.
