MONTREAL - Eugenie Bouchard will lead Canada's women's tennis team in a Fed Cup tie against Ukraine less than two weeks after she achieved her first top-100 ranking.
Bouchard, from Westmount, Que., Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa, Stephanie Dubois of Laval, Que., and Toronto's Sharon Fichman were named to the team that will face Ukraine in a World Group II play-off tie in Kyiv, April 20-21.
The 19-year-old Bouchard made her Fed Cup debut in 2011 against Slovenia, winning her first singles match in an eventual 3-2 loss for Canada. She then won all four of her singles matches in the Americas Zone Group I event in Medellin, Colombia in February.
She reached her second WTA quarter-final last week in Charleston and moved up 19 points to 95 in the world rankings.
Canada won all four of their ties in Colombia to finish first at the event and earn a spot in the World Group II playoffs. The winner of the best-of-five tie between Canada and Ukraine will be one of eight teams to qualify for World Group II in 2014.
Canada last competed in World Group II in 2011.
