TORONTO - Sotheby's Canada is holding its first sale since severing ties with the now-bankrupt Ritchies Auctioneers.

The Sotheby's fall auction at the Royal Ontario Museum tonight will feature 127 lots, including a Lawren Harris sketch of Lake Superior that's expected to fetch between $300,000 and $500,000.

Last week, an oil sketch by the Group of Seven member sold at a Heffel auction for $3.5 million, the second-highest price ever paid for a painting in Canada.

Sotheby's expects the auction will raise between $3.5 million and $5 million in total.

Other artists featured in the sale include Tom Thomson, Emily Carr and Jean-Paul Lemieux.

Sotheby's split from Ritchies in late July, after it failed to meet a deadline to pay clients for a sale in the spring.
