We know you probably love your mattress dearly and can only sleep right on that one, but there will always be times in life when you’ll need to sleep elsewhere. Maybe you travel to see family every year, enjoy camping/RV trips, or maybe you’re not ready or able to commit to a full-size mattress, for financial or other reasons. (They do take up a lot of space, too.)
No matter what reasons you occasionally have for ditching your regular mattress for a new sleeping place, it’s a great idea to have a folding mattress with you instead of risking sleeping arrangements at your destination. Folding mattresses are super portable, but they’re also really comfortable and come in all sorts of sizes and materials. They usually even have removable and washable covers!
If a folding mattress sounds like the companion you need for your travels, we’d be happy to help you pick the right one. They’ll differ in things like price, available sizes, thickness, material, and more. And you’ll want to think about every feature to make sure you find your perfect match!
This comprehensive guide will investigate the best folding mattresses in Canada right now and outline the criteria you should consider while making your purchase decision. Let’s dive right into our top five products.
Top Pick: Milliard Tri-Folding Mattress
Premium Pick: Polysleep Polycouch
Kids Pick: SpringSpirit Pack and Play Mattress Pad
Budget Pick: Molblly Folding Mattress
Also Great: GoHome 4-Inch Tri-Folding Mattress
There are so many things to appreciate about the Milliard Tri-Folding Mattress. It’s one of the most durable folding mattresses out there, and with high-density foam, it won’t lose its shape either. You’ll be able to enjoy it for years with the same level of comfort and support. Since the mattress has breathable sides, it’s able to vent your body heat to help you stay cool as well.
The included cover adds a ton of value to this mattress as well. Not only does it protect it from dust, dead skin, hair, etc., but it also has a grippy bottom that helps it stay in place on smooth surfaces like a hardwood floor or truck bed. Plus, you won’t always have to bring sheets along if you don’t want to.
There are a few quirks that you might not love about this one. It’s on the firmer end as far as mattresses go, so if you prefer a cushier sleeping surface, you might not love this. Also, it doesn’t come with a carry bag or any kind of handle system, so the larger sizes can be difficult to move solo. Plus, it has a longer off-gassing period than most folding mattresses, so you’ll need to rest it for a few extra days.
All in all, the Milliard Tri-Folding Mattress won’t let you down. No matter what you’ll be doing with it, it’ll give you a comfortable and supportive place to lie down, and it’s offered at a pretty reasonable price. You’ll be winning all over the place with this one.
Performance: 5/5
Usability: 4.5/5
Price: 4/5
Quality: 5/5
Reviewers are incredibly pleased with the Milliard Tri-Folding Mattress. They find it very comfortable to sleep on and supportive enough to reduce pain with bad backs. They also have no problems with overheating when they sleep on it. It feels really durable too. The main complaint is that it’s a bit tricky to move unless they buy the expensive carry case. It also off-gasses for quite a long time, so needs extra time to air out before it's used.

We admire so many things about the Polysleep Polycouch. Like the 8-inch thickness. Let’s start there. This is more than double the average folding mattress thickness, and as a result, it’s a lot more supportive and comfortable. Plus, it’s easier to use as a couch. And that’s still not all! It’s also a lot easier to get on and off of it when it’s used as a bed. Perfect for people with mobility issues. Who knew there could be so many benefits to a thicker mattress?
This is also a great option for people who are plagued by a tendency to overheat while they sleep. With open-cell memory foam forming the bulk of this mattress, your body heat will dissipate quickly to help you sleep better. To make sure this is a perfect fit for your home, you’ll get to take advantage of a 30-night sleep trial.
One of the few things we don’t quite love about this one is the price tag. It’s much more expensive than almost every other folding mattress out there, and while it is worthy of such a price, it will still simply be more than people are willing to pay. Understandably so. Also, it’s quite heavy at 50 pounds, so it won’t be the most travel-friendly companion.
All in all, the Polysleep Polycouch is one of our all-time favourite folding mattresses. It’s the best one to choose if you’ll be switching between couch and mattress often, and it’s one of the thickest mattresses out there. Ideal for comfort, and ideal for getting up off of the floor more easily!
Performance: 5/5
Usability: 5/5
Price: 3/5
Quality: 5/5
Reviewers are blown away by the quality of the Polysleep Polycouch. They absolutely love how easy it is to swap between couch mode and mattress mode, and it’s incredibly comfortable and supportive no matter how they’re using it. They got a lot of peace of mind from the sleep trial and long warranty period too. They all agree that it’s worth the high price tag.

You’ll be shifting between couch form and mattress form regularly
You have a hard time getting off of the floor

It needs to be travel-friendly

If you have a baby or toddler in the house, you’ve probably got a playard of some sort. And you might want to make it comfier for your baby. The SpringSpirit Pack and Play Mattress Pad is a great solution. And it’s also perfect for naps or short overnight trips away from home. Since it folds up and is quite lightweight, it’s perfect for all at-home uses and fun adventures.
We really like that this folding mattress pad comes with a cover. And not any ordinary cover. It’s waterproof and machine washable to make sure your mattress won’t get soiled, and it also helps your little one regulate their temperature—it’s super breathable. It even comes with a convenient carry case to make sure it’s easy to manage along with all of your other baby/toddler gear.
Honestly, the only thing we don’t like about this folding mattress is its long-term durability. Some people get unlucky and have poor inflation right from the jump, but most will experience a decline in comfort and support over time as the mattress gets worked in. This is obviously not a good thing for young kids, so don’t expect this pad to last their entire childhood.
All in all, the SpringSpirit Pack and Play Mattress Pad is nearly unbeatable as kids’ folding mattresses go. Its longevity isn’t anything to write home about, but as a short-term solution for playpens and naps, this is an amazing option. Your kids will thank you.

Reviewers are very happy with the quality of the SpringSpirit Pack and Play Mattress Pad. It’s offered at a great price and blows traditional playard pads out of the water. This mattress pad is much more comfortable and supportive, and they love how easy it is to fold and pack away in the included carrying case. All of their young children sleep very well on it. Some even choose it over their regular mattress.

You’d like to keep the mattress like new for years
You need a mattress that’ll help your child regulate their temperature
It needs to function as a playard mat and independent mattress
You’ll be travelling with it frequently
Don’t Buy If…
You need a long-term replacement/backup for a regular mattress
Available Sizes: 38” x 26”

For such an affordable option, the Molblly Folding Mattress really has a lot to offer. The mattress itself is spill-proof, meaning you won’t ruin it if a kid spills a drink, for example, and it also comes with a soft bamboo cover that can be removed and washed anytime! The cover also has a grippy bottom surface to keep it in place wherever you put it.
This one offers a ton of support too, thanks to three inches of high-density foam. The top layer of foam is a gel memory foam—this does a lot to add comfort to the support, and it also helps keep you cooler while you sleep! You can say goodbye to those uncomfortable night sweats and hello to a deep and restful sleep. All on a budget. How’s that for value?
There are a couple of features we’d improve if we could. This version of the mattress is only available in a selection of twin sizes, so if you’re in need of a larger size, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Also, the zipper is notoriously unreliable, so hopefully you won’t need to remove the cover too often. Once it breaks, the cover pretty much becomes unusable. Bummer, right?
Overall, the Molblly Folding Mattress is our favourite budget-friendly option right now. It’s very supportive for your joints but still comfy, and it’s got a washable cover with a spill-proof material! No matter what you need a mattress for, this one will get the job done.
Performance: 5/5
Usability: 5/5

Reviewers are very happy with the Molblly Folding Mattress for the most part. It’s incredibly supportive and comfortable for multiple nights of sleep in a row, and the breathable bamboo cover is a high-quality addition. The only problem they tend to run into is with the zipper—it has a tendency to break and become unusable given enough time.

You tend to sleep warm
You’d like to use it on bare floors
A spill-proof mattress will be a lifesaver
You prefer an extra-supportive mattress
Don’t Buy If…
You need any size other than a twin variety
You’ll need to set it up and take it down often

The GoHome 4-Inch Tri-Folding Mattress is a really great option, one that we feel comfortable recommending to just about everybody. You’ll have a very easy time moving it around single-handedly when it’s folded up, and that’s all thanks to the Velcro straps and built-in handle. You won’t find it sliding around overnight on bare floors either—the bamboo cover has a non-slip bottom.
With four inches of base foam and memory foam working together, you’ll be able to get a really comfortable sleep on this mattress. It offers a blend of pressure-relieving support and soft comfort, so it’s perfect for everybody. The cover is also hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, so it won’t contribute to allergy symptoms. Hallelujah.
The only people who might not absolutely love this option are the ones who are struggling with painful joints. If your hips, knees, or shoulders are extra sensitive to pressure, the 4-inch thickness of this mattress won’t be quite enough to keep you comfortable multiple nights in a row. If this won’t be an issue for you, we doubt you’ll find anything to complain about with this one.
All in all, the GoHome 4-Inch Tri-Folding Mattress was an easy choice to round out our top five list for this year. It won’t be thick enough to give everybody a great sleep multiple nights in a row, but it will for most. It’s one of the most well-rounded folding mattresses money can buy, and you can’t go wrong with that.
Performance: 4.5/5
Usability: 5/5

Reviewers have a great opinion of the GoHome 4-Inch Tri-Folding Mattress. It’s not quite thick enough to cushion painful joints for some people, but for the most part, everyone gets a great sleep on it. The handle and Velcro straps make it really easy for them to carry it around, and the bamboo cover is super soft. The non-slip bottom on that cover is very much appreciated too.

Pressure relief is a priority

Some folding mattresses are as affordable as $60, others can cost closer to $900. Most people won’t have to spend more than a couple hundred dollars to get one that meets their needs, though. In general, more expensive folding mattresses will be thicker, more durable, and made with higher-end materials.
All folding mattresses will be composed of some type of foam, but the exact type will vary mattress by mattress. The most common type is standard memory foam, but you can also see high-density foam, gel memory foam, and even open-cell memory foam. Each type has its own benefits, and sometimes a single mattress will combine multiple foam types to add more value.
The standard folding mattress will be four inches thick, but you can also find plenty of thicker options. Generally, thicker mattresses will be more comfortable, and they’re also easier for people with mobility issues to use. They’ll be more expensive, though. Some kid mattresses can also be quite thin, so there’s a great range out there for all purposes.
Generally speaking, every folding mattress should come with a washable cover to help keep it protected. This isn’t a guarantee, though. If you plan on enjoying snacks on your mattress, allowing your kids to use it, or travelling with it frequently, you’ll want to prioritize this feature.
