‘We’re in a crisis’: Carney returns to Saskatoon on eve of federal election

On the final day of the federal election campaign trail, Liberal Leader Mark Carney stopped in Saskatoon.

At Gather Local Market, Carney addressed his supporters on the eve of the federal election.

The Prime Minister candidate spoke at length about Canada’s relationship with the United States.

“If you look around, look around this room, around this province. We’re all Canadian, but we’re all distinct. Canada is a mosaic. In America, healthcare is a big business; in Canada it is a right. A right that was conceived...right here in Saskatchewan,” Carney said as he addressed the crowd.

This visit to Saskatoon comes just after Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre held a rally two days earlier.

The Saskatoon ridings, much like the rest of the Saskatchewan ridings, have traditionally been represented by Conservative MPs in the last several elections.

The Liberal leader also spoke about his plans for free trade within Canada, as the current trade war with the United States continues.

“At the end of my first week as prime minister, against some advice, I’m going to invite all of the premiers to Ottawa because we’re in a crisis. We’ve got to work together. And we’ll sit down and say, ‘Look, why do we have 13 economies in Canada? Let’s have one,’” Carney said.

Saskatchewan’s 14 federal seats are currently held by Conservatives, making it a key battleground in the upcoming election.

This visit marks Liberal Leader Mark Carney’s second trip to Saskatoon, following a previous stop on April 9 alongside NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh.
