Saskatchewan’s representatives at the 2025 Scotties and Brier will both be out of Saskatoon following the women’s and men’s provincial championships in Kindersley this past week.
On the women’s side, Saskatoon’s Nancy Martin defeated Regina’s Jolene Campbell 9-7 Sunday night in Kindersley.
Campbell tied the game with three points in the ninth end and then came up just short on a draw in the 10th to win the game, giving Martin a steal of two and the win.
For Martin, it will be her second trip to the Scotties, she was part of Sherry Anderson’s team in 2021.
Third Chaelynn Stewart will also be making her second appearance at the national championship, she was also a member of Anderson’s 2021 team. The team’s lead, Deanna Doig was part of Penny Barker’s 2017 Scotties team.
The 2025 Scotties begin Feb. 14 in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Kindersley also played host to the 2025 SaskTel Tankard.
Saskatoon’s Rylan Kleiter will represent the province at the 2025 Brier after defeating Swift Current’s Steve Laycock rink 8-5 for his first provincial men’s championship, securing his first trip to the Brier in the process.
Kleiter’s teammates, third Joshua Mattern, second Matthew Hall and lead Trevor Johnson will also be making their Brier debuts.
Last year’s runner up Mike McEwen will also return to the national championship after earning a birth to the event based on last season’s points system.
McEwan represented Saskatchewan at the Brier in 2024, losing to Team Canada in the championship game.
The 2025 Brier gets underway Feb. 28 in Kelowna, B.C.
