Man charged with murder in connection to Sask. First Nation shooting

A 42-year-old man is now facing a murder charge in connection to the death of Antoine Hamm from Waterhen Lake First Nation.

Officers first responded to a shooting on the first Nation on Feb. 8 where Hamm, 29, was found with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital and died of his injuries on Feb. 13.

Derek Lasas, one of two suspects, was arrested and charged with manslaughter on Feb. 8. The second suspect, Logan Lapratt, was charged with first degree murder.

In an update sent on Thursday, Saskatchewan RCMP said Lasas’s charge for manslaughter was upgraded to one count of second-degree murder.

He is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on April 21.
