Four-time All-CFL veteran defensive lineman Micah Johnson has signed a contract extension with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the team announced Friday.
Johnson dressed for all 18 of the Riders’ regular season games in 2024, registering 28 defensive tackles, including four for a loss and six sacks which was tied for third in the CFL.
“Johnson tallied a two-sack game against Toronto in Week 5 and as part of a stout run defence, helped Saskatchewan allow the fewest rushing first downs (94) and the fewest rushing yards (80.3) per game in the league,” the team said in a news release.
Johnson also played offensive lineman in an emergency situation in the 2024 Labour Day Classic, playing right-guard for more than half the game.
The 36-year-old Columbus, Georgia product spent six seasons with the Calgary Stampeders before joining the Riders for the 2019 season. He was also a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2022 and an East All-CFL selection.
Johnson also won Grey Cups in 2014 and 2018.
CFL teams will be able to negotiate with any free agent beginning Feb. 11.
