The owner of a Pilot Butte-based excavating business has been fined for violating provincial occupational health and safety regulations.

Michael Macala of TM Excavating recently pleaded guilty to two charges in Regina provincial court and was fined $1,150 with a $345 surcharge.

The charges included failing to ensure that workers were wearing approved protective headwear.

It was also alleged that the employer failed to ensure equipment and spoil piles were kept at least one metre from the edge of an excavation or trench.

A third charge stemming from the May 2012 worksite inspection was stayed.
