In recognition of 4-20, a local cannabis store in Regina’s North Central neighbourhood organized an outdoor celebration to bring the community together.

“We are celebrating 4-20 but, in a way not so much as the smoking part of it. We just wanted it to be a community celebration,” Miyo Askiy Cannabis Co. owner Brendan Anderson told CTV News.

The occasion featured live entertainment from local artists, a community BBQ, face painting, as well as an opportunity for local businesses to sell their art.

“We knew that today was going to be kind of a successful day for us so we figured ‘Hey, why not reach out to some people and share some of that success,’” said Anderson.

“Bring the people in and give them a little taste of what they can maybe, use as momentum later on – with the businesses or with their music or with whatever this type of event can bring because when we all celebrate together.”

“Everybody wins, especially the community,” he added.

Peter Flanan, the special business advisor for Miyo Askiy, said the business is committed to hosting public events for people in the area – and for those events to benefit the community at the same time.

“We have 15 per cent of all profits go back to the community for things like this,” he shared.

With the business reaching its two-year anniversary come July 6, Flanan said he is proud to see the public came out for the event.

“That’s a big thing about today too. If we can motivate one, two, five people out of this, you show everybody – like Brendan said when he was on the stage – he came from this neighborhood and wants to motivate people,” he noted.
