A video showing an individual being confronted by police while doing lawn care that has been circulating online is “untrue,” warns the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

“The beginning of the video features a brief clip of OPP officers,” the OPP said in a news release Friday.

“The OPP can confirm that the incident detailed in the video is untrue.”

Police say the video was made by using footage from two unrelated videos to fabricate a false scenario where OPP officers were confronting an individual who was working in the yard.

Police Told CTV News Ottawa the video has been circulating on multiple social media platforms, including TikTok. It has been circulating for three years.

Though the individual who posted it online is known to police, the motives remain unknown, the OPP says. No charges will be laid.

Spreading disinformation “can fuel public hostility, heighten risks to officer safety and undermine community trust,” the OPP adds.

Officers are asking residents to remain critical of the information online.

“We thank the public for bringing this video to our attention to allow us the opportunity to confirm that the contents are inaccurate,” reads the release.

“The OPP remains committed to transparency and the safety of the communities we serve.”
