The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is asking the public for help identifying two suspects involved in an alleged armed robbery on Highway 15 in eastern Ontario Thursday evening.
It happened just before 9:30 p.m. on the highway near Back Street, north of Lyndhurst Road when a good Samaritan saw a broken-down, dark-coloured Nissan Rogue on the highway and stopped to help.
“The victim was approached by an unknown person pointing a firearm. A second suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and stole money,” the OPP said in a news release Friday.
Police say the suspects then took off southbound on Highway 15.
The good Samaritan was not injured. They were able to observe a partial Ontario licence plate beginning with B-E-C, police add.
The first suspect is described as a white man, in his 40’s, with a brown beard. At the time, he was seen wearing a black and blue plaid jacket. He is believed to be armed.
Suspect number two is described as a white woman, in her 40’s, with blonde hair. At the time, she was seen wearing a black jacket.
People who see those suspects or their vehicle are asked to call 9-1-1 and to not approach.
The OPP warns residents that they should be cautious and aware of their surroundings before stopping for help. Police recommend calling the OPP’s nonemergency number at 1 (888) 310-1122 to send help if they see a stranded or broken-down vehicle.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage about this incident is asked to call Leeds County OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
