Bylaw Services officers buried Ottawa motorists in parking tickets during Saturday’s on-street parking ban, issuing more than $560,000 in fines to drivers illegally parking on city streets as crews worked to clear snow from roads and sidewalks.
The City of Ottawa issued a winter weather parking ban between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, as a winter storm hit Ottawa. Approximately 8 cm of snow fell Friday night and Saturday.
Bylaw Services tells CTV News Ottawa that 5,375 tickets were issued to vehicles violating the winter weather parking ban on Saturday.
The fine for violating the winter weather parking ban is $125, with an early payment option of $105.
The City of Ottawa may declare a winter weather parking ban when seven centimetres of snow or more are in the forecast. Staff say any vehicle that does not have an on-street parking permit and remains parked on the street may receive a ticket.
This was the third winter weather parking ban this winter, after the city issued parking bans on Feb. 13-14 and Feb. 16-17 during back-to-back winter storms.
Bylaw officers have issued 16,053 tickets during the three winter weather parking bans this winter, resulting in $1.685 million in fines.

- Thursday, Feb. 13: 2,950 tickets
- Friday, Feb. 14: 3,267 tickets
- Sunday, Feb. 16: 2,601 tickets
- Monday, Feb. 17: 1,860 tickets
- Saturday, March 1: 5,375 tickets
