MONTREAL - Transport officials in Quebec are hoping a Montreal tunnel that has been closed since a massive chunk of concrete smashed onto a highway will reopen by Monday.
That's when Quebec's traditional construction holidays end and traffic in Montreal will become far busier than it has been in the last two weeks.
Speaking in Montreal this morning, Transport Minister Sam Hamad said he hopes the tunnel on the Ville-Marie Expressway can reopen as soon as possible.
A 2008 engineering report released this week warned the tunnel was in a "critical" state and had become dangerous to users.
Hamad said today the collapse of a 25-ton chunk of concrete last Sunday was related to construction work that was taking place at the time.
