WINNIPEG - Folks will soon be able to order a Tim Hortons coffee in Iqaluit, Nunavut, the last province or territory that has been without a location.
The North West Co. (TSX:NWF.UN) said Wednesday it has signed a deal to open three kiosk locations in the territorial capital in December.
The kiosks will be in the retailer's NorthMart locations.
"This delivers convenience and accessibility for our customers, in addition to a great product," said Michael McMullen, executive vice-president of North West's Northern Canada retail division.
As of July 4, Tim Hortons (TSX:THI) had 3,627 restaurants, including 3,040 in Canada and 587 in the United States.
"You could say it's overdue. If we can be in Kandahar (Afghanistan), why can't we be in Iqaluit?" said Nick Javor, senior vice-president of corporate affairs at Tim Hortons.
"We are excited to finally bring the Tim Hortons experience to the Iqaluit community and The North West Company is the right franchisee to help us deliver value and fresh product to our guests."
The North West Co. operates 229 stores under several banners including Northern, NorthMart, Giant Tiger, AC Value Center and Cost-U-Less.
In trading on the TSX, Tim Hortons shares fell 92 cents to $37.01, a drop of 2.4 per cent.
North West shares dropped eight cents to $20.76.
