Messy weather to hit northeastern Ontario CTV News weather specialist Katie Behun has the forecast details for northeastern Ontario that you need to know over the next week.

Officers who stopped a southern Ont. driver for speeding on Highway 17 in the north said two young children were in the back of the vehicle and not wearing seatbelts, police say.

The 42-year-old male driver is accused of travelling 135 km/h in a 90 km/h zone and pulled over just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday by members of the Manitouwadge detachment, the Ontario Provincial Police said in a social media post Wednesday afternoon.

As a result, the driver is facing numerous provincial offences notices for Highway Traffic Act violations.

Charges include two counts of driving while child passengers are not properly secured and speeding 45 km/h over the posted limit.

"The OPP want to remind you that it only takes a few seconds to buckle up," police said.

"A properly worn seatbelt greatly increases your chances of surviving a motor vehicle collision. Furthermore, speeding and other forms of aggressive driving are dangerous and remain leading causes and contributing factors in fatalities on OPP patrolled roads."
