Two arrested, $16K in suspected drugs seized in Garden River First Nation raid

Two individuals have been arrested following the execution of a drug warrant in Garden River First Nation, last week.

The joint operation was led by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), assisted by Anishinabek Police Service, Batchewana First Nation Police Service and Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and took place on March 12.

At approximately 12:45 p.m., authorities executed the warrant at a residence on Megezee Street.

During the search, police seized suspected quantities of cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine, along with a digital scale, a cell phone and packaging materials.

Police said they estimate that the street value of the drugs at $16,000.

As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old man and a 44-year-old man, both from Garden River First Nation, have been charged with three counts of drug trafficking. The man also faces an additional charge for failing to comply with a release order.

The male accused appeared in bail court in Sault Ste. Marie on March 13 and was remanded into custody while the female accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on March 31, 2025.
