‘Treacherous weather’ conditions close Highway 17 north of Sault Ste. Marie

Highway 17 is closed Monday along the eastern shore of Lake Superior north of Sault Ste. Marie due to what police are calling ‘treacherous weather.’

The closure stretches from the Ministry of Transportation weigh scales in Heyden to Pinewood Drive in Wawa.

No estimated reopening time has been given.

The MTO’s traveller information map, 511, is showing reduced visibility along Hwy. 556 with bare roads on Hwy. 129 from Hwy. 17 to just north of Aubrey Falls Provincial Park, where the roads are snow covered.

North of Wawa, reduced visibility continues on Hwy. 17 to Gravel River Provincial Nature Reserve.
