Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Dryden have laid multiple drug and weapon-related charges following a traffic stop during a recent RIDE (reduce impaired driving everywhere) operation.
According to a social media post last week, officers conducting RIDE checks in the City of Dryden pulled over a vehicle after observing open alcohol inside. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the arrest of both the driver and the lone passenger.
Police seized 53 grams of methamphetamine, 13 grams of cocaine and various opioid medications from the driver. Officers also located a prohibited weapon in the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, the driver was charged with three counts of drug trafficking, possession of a prohibited weapon and having both cannabis and alcohol readily available while operating a motor vehicle. The driver was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
The passenger was charged with drug possession and possession of a prohibited weapon and was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
“Dryden OPP continues their focus on disrupting the distribution of illicit drugs in their communities through proactive and intelligence-based enforcement,” police said in their post.
