The Timmins and District Hospital Foundation announced this year’s fundraising initiative to raise money for medical technology upgrades.
It is holding a raffle for a one-carat diamond worth more than $14,000, donated by the De Beers Group Victor Mine. It’s the last of the local mine’s eight-year donation streak, since it wrapped up production in May.
Barb McCormick, donor relations manager for the foundation, says these yearly fundraisers are crucial in allowing the hospital to continue improving its quality of care.
“This [year’s fundraiser] most serves the critical care areas, where the patients are monitored 24/7. It will provide the fast stream of information and care changes, so that our nursing staff can be alerted to the requirements of changes in care for our patients,” said McCormick.
While the Ontario government’s funding only covers operational costs, McCormick notes, hospitals depend on foundations like TADF to ensure they are able to support their patients. TADF has raised over $49-million for the hospital since 1985.
Raffle tickets for the diamond are $100 per entry and are sold at the hospital’s foundation office. The draw will take place on November 1, 2019.
