Kirkland Lake woman charged with drug impaired driving, stealing taxi

Published:

Efforts to reduce impaired driving in the northeast seem to be working in some communities – provincial police say stats are still high.

A Kirkland Lake woman was arrested last month on nine criminal charges including stealing a taxi, drug impaired driving and failing to stop after an accident, police say.

Police got a call around 3:30 p.m. March about a taxi stolen from the Government Road West area, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Wednesday.

“Officers quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver failed to comply with police commands and was arrested at the scene,” OPP said.

“Further investigation determined that the driver was impaired by a substance. The individual was transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for a drug recognition evaluation.”

The 37-year-old woman is also charged with dangerous operation, resisting a peace officer and two counts each of failing to comply with a probation order and driving while suspended.

She is being held in custody and scheduled to appear in court May 15.
