Hwy. 6 crash leaves to impaired, drug charges A single-vehicle crash on Highway 6 on Birch Island has led to more than $9,000 in suspected cocaine and fentanyl being seized.

A single vehicle crash Thursday afternoon near Little Current led to several charges, including trafficking and impaired driving.

The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. on Highway 6 near Birth Island, Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Friday.

"The two occupants of the vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries," the release said.

"Police determined that the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance and an arrest was made."

A search uncovered 40 grams of what is believed to be cocaine, five grams of suspected crack cocaine and 15 grams of suspected fentanyl. Combined, the drugs have a street value of around $9,000.

Two suspects from Wikwemikong, ages 37 and 42, are charged with drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

In addition, the 42-year-old driver was charged with impaired driving, driving while prohibited and dangerous driving.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Feb. 25.

"The OPP has highly trained drug recognition evaluator officers who are skilled in the detection and investigation of drug impaired drivers," police said.
