Flooded community near North Bay declares state of emergency

Spring melt causes flooding across northeastern Ont.

The Township of Chisholm has declared a state of emergency due to severe flooding across the township.

The municipality made the declaration in a social media post April 16.

“Approximately one-quarter of the impacted area is underwater, and water levels continue to rise as snowmelt from Algonquin Park combines with significant rainfall,” the post said.

“Flooding is affecting roads, properties and critical services. Please stay alert and follow all municipal updates as the situation evolves.”

A late winter storm in northeastern Ontario, combined with heavy rains in recent days and warming temperatures, has created flood conditions across the region, including French River, North Bay, Manitoulin Island and Greater Sudbury.
