PARIS - French Defence Minister Herve Morin says French troops already in Afghanistan could be used to train the Afghan military, but Paris has no intention of sending new contingents to bolster the NATO mission there.

Morin says France already is doing enough in Afghanistan.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told journalists after meeting Morin in Paris on Wednesday that the alliance would welcome more troops to help train the Afghan military.

Morin said those French troops who hand over sectors to the Afghan military could be redeployed for training missions. He reiterated the position of President Nicolas Sarkozy that France will not send any more combat troops to Afghanistan.
