Uber drivers now allowed to pick up passengers at Trudeau Airport

Published:

RCMP questioned 10 youths at Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport in Montreal this past weekend. They were suspected of wanting to join ISIS in the Middle East.

Uber drivers are now allowed to pick up passengers at Trudeau Airport -- but there are a few catches.

Aeroports de Montreal and Uber have worked out a deal that will last until October 2017.

As a result Uber drivers will have to wait somewhere away from the airport itself until passengers are ready, at which point they can be picked up at the Departure gate.

Picking up passengers at the arrival gate remains the exclusive privilege of 310 taxi drivers, who have to take part in a lottery each year and pay Aeroports de Montreal for access.

However this year, the permits for taxi drivers were extended for an extra six months.

Last year the airport also imposed a dress code for taxi drivers, said it would only accept taxis that were less than four years old, and said it wanted one-third of taxis to be hybrid or electric.
